Jason and Addie's Story
We had decided we wanted to raise a child that needed a home, so we began our adoption journey in January 2007.
We luckily came across ASC's website and we loved how their motto was "You'll get the child you were meant to raise",
so we called and went to the monthly seminar and decided to proceed with their help. We were very excited and anxious
to have a child and, by the end of January, our home study was done, we had completed our class, and we were activated.
Then, the dreaded wait began.
On March 5th, we received the call saying a birth mom had chosen us and she wanted to meet us. We were very excited and,
after we met her, we were even more excited! She wasn't due until May, so after much thought, we decided to "pull" our file
and wait for this baby girl. Over the next 10 weeks, we met several times with her and her 2 other children, having dinner,
going shopping, etc. We had decided we were going to stay in contact because Jason and I felt it was important for the baby
to know where she came from and we had grown to really like her and the children.
She called us on May 8th around midnight and said she was going into labor, so we rushed to the hospital. I was lucky enough
to be in the room for the delivery of the baby and was overjoyed! Everything was going perfect and we could not wait to take
our little girl home. The time came for the papers to be signed and the attorney and Amanda, ACS's social worker, arrived.
Needless to say, we were very anxious because we knew nothing was final until she signed the papers. Then our worst nightmare
happened and our joy turned to devastation when we found out the birth mom had changed her mind. We couldn't believe it!
Everything seemed so perfect and we did not know what had gone wrong. We left the hospital without the baby girl we thought
we were meant to raise.
The next day, less than 24 hours after the first birth mom didn't sign the papers, we got a call from Amanda asking if we
would be interested in a baby boy who was 11-weeks-old. His birth mom was not able to raise him and was ready to proceed with
an adoption. We had decided that we were putting all of this into God's hands and we would get the child we were meant to have,
so we told her yes. We were still devastated over the loss of the first baby so we did not tell anyone about the potential
little boy because we did not want another disappointment. However, the next day, we got the call from Amanda telling us that
the birth mom signed the papers and had chosen us! She said she was on her way to pick up our son and told us where to be and
asked us to get there as soon as possible! We met her there and, within 48 hours of the first birth mom not signing, we had
our 11-week-old son, Carson, in our arms. We even found out he has the same birth date of my grandpa whom I was very close
to, so we knew this is how it was supposed to be!
We had started questioning why we had pulled our file, but in the end, we realized we hadn't made a bad decision; we needed
to wait so we would be available to have our son on May 11th.
Adopting is the best thing we've ever done! We feel so blessed to be Carson's parents and can't imagine it any other way!
He is an incredible little boy and the light of our lives! Even after the devastation of the first fall-through, in the end,
ASC was right; we definitely have the child we were meant to raise!
